We know starting CrossFit can feel like a big step, but at District L, we make sure your introduction is supportive, structured, and confidence-building. No matter your fitness background, our goal is to meet you where you’re at – and teach you how to move well from day one.
In your first sessions with us, we’ll guide you through five essential CrossFit movements. These are the foundations of what we do, and they’re perfect for beginners.
Here’s what you’ll learn first:
1. Squats — Back, Front & Overhead
We break squats down into three variations, starting with the back squat and progressing to front and overhead. You’ll learn how to move safely under load, build leg strength, and improve mobility.
2. Deadlifts
Picking things up properly matters. We teach deadlift technique from the ground up (literally) so you can lift confidently and safely, both in and out of the gym.
3. Presses (Shoulder-to-Overhead)
Strict press, push press, and push jerk, you’ll learn how to move weight overhead while protecting your shoulders and building upper body strength.
4. Basic Gymnastics
We start with the basics: bodyweight movements like hollow holds and supported hangs, all of which build core strength, coordination, and control.
5. Box Jumps (or Step-Ups)
A fun and functional test of power and coordination. Whether you’re jumping or stepping up, we build confidence on the box at your own pace.
Learn the Right Way, Right Away
You won’t be thrown into a random workout. Every new member starts by learning these foundational movements in a structured, coached environment — designed to set you up for long-term success.
